Midvaal Municipality and Heineken Collaborate to Establish Skills Development Centre for Youth Empowerment

In his recent State of the Municipality Address held at Balmoral Gardens in De Deur, Alderman Peter Teixeira, the Executive Mayor of Midvaal Local Municipality, unveiled an exciting collaboration between the municipality and Heineken. Together, they are embarking on the establishment of a Skills Development Centre in Savanna City, with a special focus on empowering the youth.

The primary objective of this center is to provide small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) with access to essential resources such as training, development programs, and state-of-the-art facilities. By doing so, it aims to foster the growth and establishment of new businesses, as well as offer valuable up-skilling and reskilling opportunities to both young individuals and job seekers.

The project has already secured funding, with Heineken generously contributing R1.2 million towards the acquisition of containers. In addition, the municipality has allocated R400,000 to support the initiative. Currently, efforts are underway to obtain the necessary approvals for constructing the building, as well as partnering with a reputable training body that will oversee and facilitate the training programs. Alderman Teixeira extended an invitation to all stakeholders in this field to collaborate with the municipality, emphasizing the need for partnerships to drive meaningful change.

Recognizing the importance of collective efforts, Alderman Teixeira highlighted, "We acknowledge that building a thriving community requires the collective participation of various stakeholders. It is imperative that we join forces with private businesses and civil society to make a tangible and lasting impact."

By fostering collaboration between industry players, entrepreneurs, and small to medium enterprises, the Skills Development Centre in Savanna City aspires to create employment opportunities and contribute to the overall advancement of the region. This collaborative approach represents an innovative way to address the challenges faced by the community, harnessing the strengths of different sectors to bring about positive change.
